We're Going to Phu Quoc!

For our upcoming trip, we're headed to Phnom Penh, Cambodia for a few days and then we're headed to Vietnam. I visited Ho Chi Minh city for a weekend before, but this time, we're going to a brand-new place for both of us: the island of Phu Quoc (your guess on pronunciation is as good as mine).

Probably, I am most excited to take some time on the beach. To relax. To take it all in. But also, we're staying at this amazingly cool place called FreedomLand. Check it out. It's called a "home stay" but seems like a kind of a cross between glamping and a hippy commune. We're pretty stoked.

What follows is the auto-response I received from them as soon as I inquired via email about accommodations:

Hello,

Thank you very much for considering to stay with us at Freedomland!

This is an automatic response. You will receive it every time you write to us.

Apologies for the long email but please take a few minutes to read it before to make sure Freedomland is the kind of place you're looking for. we are very special and not for everyone's taste.

AFTER READING THIS EMAIL IF WE'RE STILL WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR JUST REPLY TO OUR AUTO-RESPONSE.

Peter and I are very close to our guests so we like to present ourselves as accurately as possible to make sure we provide a happy experience for everyone. I'm sure you already read all about us but here it is anyway:

We do not have hot water, no air-con, no TV and no swimming pool. We do have beach towels, white cotton bed sheets, bath and face towels and hand soap. Also WIFI is available in the common area :)

We are not on the beach and we do not have sea view bungalows. The beach is about 12 minutes walk on a red dirt road. We are located on Ong Lang countryside area which is 10km away from Duong Dong town (about 20 minutes drive).

All the rooms are opened enough to allow the air flow, they are furnished with fan, wooden furniture and mosquito net. All have private bathrooms.

Freedomland is not a normal hotel or resort so we call ourselves a homestay, located on Ong Lang in 9000sqm piece ofland. We have every night a communal dinner, for our guests and friends only, under the trees (when it's not raining) and when all the guests have the opportunity to meet and exchange experiences in a simple atmosphere close to nature. It's a very social place so an adventurous and friendly spirit is the key here.

We have lots of frogs, huge geckos and some friendly spiders. Not dangerous but if you have a very strong phobia we might not work out for you. Be aware that this is the countryside / jungle-like area in a tropical island...

We do not have a public restaurant but we serve all meals to our guests and we have a little bar. Only the dinner is communal.

Since the shopping for the communal dinner is done early in the morning, you will be automatically booked for dinner on the first night but it will NOT be included in the room rate. Please, let us know if you have any dietary restrictions or food allergies.

The price for the dinner we cannot determine for sure because the prices in the market are unstable. At this moment average price is 290.000vnd/adult (4-5 course meal). DINNER IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE ROOM RATE.

If you really like to stay with us and are still interested to come please send me another email to let me know.

Hope to hearing from you soon.

Warmest regards,
Rita

We'll let ya know if it lives up to the hype.
